Birds of the North

An amazing variety of birds call the North Woods home at some point during the year. Perhaps no other bird is more emblematic of the North than the majestic Bald Eagle, who build their giant nests in the towering white pines that form the very skyline of the North. They can stretch their wings out and soar on thermals until they disappear into heights so high you can no longer see them. Or maybe its the lonely call of Common Loons echoing across a quiet lake in the evening. Or perhaps its the chattering vocalizing of a group of Tundra Swans in flight, sounding like an incoming pack of barking dogs. Or the rat-a-tat-tat of the giant Pileated Woodpecker drilling its oval holes in the sides of aged and rotting trees looking for insects. Whatever the North feels like to you, there is a bird that when you hear or see it, will remind you that you are forever home.
