Lately, our 3-1/2 year old granddaughter Paige has been my constant companion. Likewise, her constant companion is Bunny, a cute ragamuffin cuddly that she takes everywhere-even on the sled when we go flying down the hill out onto the pond. Last night in between games of chase and hide and go-seek, I said “Paige, Bunny is wondering if we will be building a snowman tomorrow.” “Did you hear him talking with all that stuff behind your ears Papa?” she asked. As I was contemplating whether she was making fun of me or not she went on, with one hand on her hip and her head cocked sideways to make sure I was going to get what she was about to tell me. She grabbed my chin with one hand to make her point, “Papa, you know Bunny isn’t real-he’s just a stuffed animal and he can’t talk.” WHAT?? I was stunned. Why did she have to tell me that? As you can imagine, I was crushed. Carolyn had to console me until late into the snowy night.
