Sitting in the 4 below zero darkness long before dawn this morning, a stiff, biting wind was stinging my face, like I had just stepped on a frozen nest of hornets. I usually wait in the warmth of the house until I see if there is even a possibility of a sunrise in the thick cloud deck that has become our permanent cover of late, but this morning I was filled with anticipation and hope, and with my inner sunrise meter pegging off the dial, I went out extra early to experience every moment. It emerged through the darkness with a soul-burning intensity. In its glow all I could feel was happiness, hope and humility.
