The lake was resplendent this morning wearing its summer shinola, polished smooth and uniquely planed at every point, creating a homeomorphic sheen that only seems to occur in the dead of summer. If you are patient enough to sit and stare, you will notice a ripple sent from here to there now and then by a suddenly skidding water strider implausibly riding the surface tension or the air-sucking popping of a hungry bluegill snapping up breakfast among the yellow lilies.
