Out on another wild lake with John yesterday. “Can you hear that high-pitched song? I think it’s a Cape May warbler!” he said excitedly. “Are you kidding?” I responded thinking he said for some odd reason “some stray warbler”. I heard only silence. Of course, as usual he was correct, and he commenced to expertly “pssh” the stray bird right into easy view. When I got home, I looked it up on YouTube to jostle the muscle memory of my malfunctioning earie canals but the 46 second recording of its song, viewed by 29,405 other eager people, was sadly also silent. As luck would have it, the bird was in fact straying from its usual nesting grounds farther north, confirming that I what I hear still makes sense at least to me. I just feel so sorry for all those disappointed people on YouTube!
