In the forest primeval yesterday, this venerable and brawny birch shared its memoirs with us. We quietly sat there and listened with great anticipation, like children being read a bedtime story, and oh my, the adventures we heard! We heard fables, tales, dramas, fantasies, tragedies, love stories and other deeply rooted accounts of moss and neighbor trees, critters big and small, fishes long and short, hobbits young and old, and even the occasional human that have happened along here, an encyclopedic explanation of a life well-lived all from its prehistoric vantage point, in this one spot along the banks of this swiftly winding river.
